Bishop Paul Loverde, who is a Cursillista himself, celebrated Mass and the installation of
Phil Kiko as the new lay director of Arlington Cursillo. The investiture occurred at Phil’s home parish, St. Charles Borromeo in Arlington, on February 15, 2012. Other ordained Cursillistas who participated in the Mass included Father Tuck Grinnell, pastor of St. Charles as well as the Arlington Cursillo spiritual director; Father Stefan Starzynski of St. Mary of Sorrows; Father Mike Hann of Missionhurst; and Deacons Jack Ligon of St. Stephen the Martyr and David Maurer of St. Leo the Great.
In his homily, Bishop Loverde spoke of the ways he and so many others have deepened their walk with Christ through the Cursillo Weekend. He also challenged us all to reach out to others as part of Pope Benedict’s call for the new evangelization.
The bishop blessed Phil, who called on Arlington Cursillistas to be on fire (view a video of Phil’s remarks by clicking on the link)and spread the Good News of the Gospel.
Bishop Loverde, Phil and all attendees recognized Mimi Fitzgerald for her service the past three-plus years as our lay director. Mimi gave Phil the lay director cross, saying those words we all remember from our Weekends: “Christ is counting on you.” Phil answered: “And I am counting on Christ.”
