Retreat for People Facing Serious Illness (Retreat for the Seriously Ill)

The Retreat for People Facing Serious Illness is a weekend retreat of spiritual renewal and refreshment for persons who face serious physical illness.

A recognized ministry of the Diocese of Arlington, the retreat is held twice each year, the Memorial Day weekend and the second weekend of December.

The retreat is designed to facilitate the retreatants' relationship to Christ, to celebrate the love of our Lord through the talks given by the priest spiritual directors, the opportunities for reflection and prayer, through the celebration of the Eucharist and through sharing with others.  Where there is love, there is God.

The relaxed schedule includes time during the day for physical rest.  A team of caring volunteers includes health care professionals who ensure the retreatants’ medical needs are met.

The retreat is held at the Dominican Retreat in McLean, Virginia.  Information about the retreat and applications for attending the retreat are initiated by contacting the Dominican Retreat at 703-356-4243.

May 23 - May 25, 2008 Retreat

"I have called you by name, you are mine.  You are precious in my sight, and I love you."  Is 43:1, 4

Team preparations have begun in anticipation of the May 23 - May 25, 2008 Retreat for People Facing Serious Illness.  The theme for the retreat is taken from Isaiah's account of God's Promise to Rescue His People in which He calls all of us by name, to be cradled in His love.  Why should we ever be afraid?

God graces those who are called as retreatants.  Many who experience a serious illness have responded to His call to participate.  How many others have not heard the call because of not being aware of the retreat?  Invite others who are experiencing a serious illness to consider the retreat and have them or their family members or care-givers to contact the Dominican Retreat regarding the retreat.  There is no cost to the retreatants who are able to attend.

As the team prepares to welcome those called as retreatants, we invite you to remember in prayer those called to be retreatants and the team members.  Your prayers are appreciated through the team preparation, the weekend retreat, and after the retreat, when the retreatants return to home life.  The Spring 2008 retreat will be held May 23 - May 25, 2008 at the Dominican Retreat, 7103 Old Dominion Drive, McLean, VA 22101.

Please grace us with your sacrifice and written letters of love and support, addressed to Sister or Brothers in Christ; with your donated food items and drinks, your presence at our serenade on Sunday, May 25, at 8:25 AM at the Dominican Retreat and with your prayers.  Your written letters may be delivered to the Dominican Retreat on Friday, May 25, or mailed c/o Retreat for the Seriously Ill, Dominican Retreat, 7103 Old Dominion Drive, McLean, VA 22101.

We appreciate your most generous support to continue this ministry since it began in 1978.  If you can help with the gift of financial support, we would be grateful,  Your gifts may be sent to the Retreat for the Seriously Ill, PO Box 1513, Fairfax City, VA 22038-1513.

If you are interested in helping with some of the 'administrative' elements for the retreat, call 703-425-8167.

Directions to the Dominican Retreat:
